Bishop's Castle

Bishop's Castle

— Sightseeing

It is always a great experience to have a bird's eye view of the landscape below. Győr's iconic building, the Bishop's Castle, has a nearly 40-metre square truncated tower with 206 stairs leading up to it. The stairs are well worth the effort, as the view from the top offers a unique view of the city centre, the Radó Island and the confluence of the rivers.

The castle, built in the time of the foundation of the state, is the only medieval residence of the archbishop of Hungary. It is still the seat of the bishopric of Győr. The exhibition hall of the Tower Lookout is home to the works of porcelain and sculpture artist Teréz Borza, as part of the permanent exhibition "The Secret of Easter". On the resting floors you can see the history of the construction of the Bishop's Castle, portraits and coats of arms of the bishops of Győr.
