Program:
The Győr Philharmonic Orchestra will begin its concert in the Nikisch subscription series with Hacsaturian's five-movement Masquerade Ball Suite from 1944. This suite weaves together details from the incidental music he composed for Lermontov's drama in 1941, with the most famous movement being the Waltz, which is likely familiar to anyone, even those who have never heard the composer’s name.
Following this, the concert will feature Jean Françaix's Clarinet Concerto, composed in 1967-68. Françaix, who lived from 1912 to 1997, composed this four-movement piece with quintessential French wit and boundless inventiveness. It will be performed by the outstanding Hungarian clarinetist, Gábor Varga.
The concert will conclude with one of the most emblematic masterpieces of Russian romanticism: Tchaikovsky's representative Symphony No. 5.
The conductor of the concert will be the young Hungarian maestro, Levente Török, an exceptional talent from the new generation of Hungarian conductors and the principal conductor of the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra.
