PÉCSI BALLET: CARMINA BURANA
Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is an unmissable masterpiece — a monumental challenge and a sublime inspiration for any choreographer. Its powerful music, drawn from medieval student songs, elevates the human experience to a higher spiritual plane. For the choreographer, it offers the opportunity for a deeply personal artistic statement.
At the heart of this interpretation is a concern for humanity in an increasingly mechanized and self-destructive world — a reflection on morality, compassion, and the sacredness of life. Yet, despite the darkness, Carmina Burana is also a celebration — a spark of hope for a better, more humane future.
Directed and choreographed by Balázs Vincze, artistic director of Pécsi Balett, this contemporary ballet builds on classical foundations and blends expressive storytelling with visual splendor. Vincze is known for his ability to translate great literary works and abstract ideas into emotionally resonant dance pieces. His work resonates with both connoisseurs and newcomers to the art form.
The Pécsi Ballet dancers bring each character to life with unique expressive talents and captivating stage presence. Their artistry is the key to the company’s continued acclaim — a hallmark that has made their performances sell out across Hungary and abroad.
