NAGYVÁRAD DANCE ENSEMBLE: Cries and Whispers
A physical theatre performance
Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s film
Ingmar Bergman’s Cries and Whispers explores the depths of death and family relationships, following a tragic chapter in the lives of three sisters and a devoted servant. This physical theatre adaptation delves into existential questions:
Does the greatest suffering happen in life, and is the afterlife a form of redemption?
Or is earthly life a kind of paradise, with punishment awaiting us beyond death for our deeds?
Can suffering ever be avoided — or does it inevitably reach us all?
At the center of the story is Agnes, who is dying. Her agony and death struggle set the course for everything that follows. Her sisters, Karin and Maria, along with the loyal servant Anna, try to ease her pain and support her through her final hours.
This emotionally intense and visually gripping piece examines the human experience at its most vulnerable — where whispers meet screams, and life fades into the unknown.
