Gábor Baross, who served as a member of parliament in Győr for four terms, was an exemplary and innovative leader of the city. Győr owes several infrastructure facilities to him, including the railway and the Baross bridge, as well as the city’s telephone service.

The statue is the work of sculptor Tibor Rieger, which was inaugurated in 2016. In the hand of the statue, you can see a gold watch, which symbolizes the time devoted to creative work.
