The host congregations of Five Churches Festival open the gates of the churches also this year for one another and for all those visitors who are interested in celebrating together at the time of Advent and Hanukah. EASTERN BOUNDARY QUARTET (USA-H) They are the leaders of the etno jazz music genre in Hungary. The audience can hear the group’s own music with short improvisations. Their first concert was at „Nyitott Műhely” in May 2007 in Budapest. Their first album was “Keleti Határszél / Eastern Boundary” which was released in the same year as their first concert. Their second album is “Icicles” which brought the band positive feedback from Europe and also from America in 2010. Their latest album is called the “Live at De Werf” and was recorded at the American ARC publisher. The members of the band are masters of improvisation. The true meaning of their music is conveyed during their concerts. After they have given many concerts in Hungary and Slovakia, they gave concerts on the East coast of the USA in the spring of 2009. In the fall of 2011 and the spring of 2013 they performed on the stages of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. They gave concerts again in 2014 and in 2018 in the USA. CHRISTMAS ORGAN CONCERT AT PANNONHALMA It is tradition to celebrate our Savior’s birth with music at the Abbey of Pannonhalma. On the 26th of December, Zsolt Kiss will play Abbey’s pipe organ. The audience will enjoy compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Louis-Claude Daquin, Arcangelo Corelli and Marcel Dupré. Artist: Zsolt Kiss (Organist) Zsolt Kiss was born in 1979 at Kaposvár. He began to play piano at the age of 8. He studied at János Richter Music High School. After that he studied at the Ferenc Liszt Music University and he graduated in 2003. He is a music and organ teacher at the Bencés Highschool of Pannonhalma and chorus director of the Cathedral. He has given concerts in Germany, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, Slovakia and many towns in Hungary. Gergely Rákász: Stories of Christmas Gergely Rákász is a famous Hungarian organ musician. His concerts mean that it’s officially the Christmas season for lots of people. At least this is what we learned from the floods of e-mails and Facebook messages that he and his team always receive after the concerts. The concert will incorporate 300 years of vibrant music together. About the concert 2nd George, the king of England who reminds us of friends we do not really like and we can see how he gets Händel around his finger. This is how the Firework music is created. The Roman gods host us with the music of Gustav Holst. Venus teaches us love and beauty, and Jupiter teaches us the art of ruling. The audience will experience how today’s movie musical scores borrow from the classics that were written 100+ years ago. Berlioz Rákoczi march music is always played at every concert during the remembrance year of Rákoczi. We are going to figure out which stands closer to people: Vak Pali (who was he at all?!) or the god of the Hungarians.
